Not A Simple Sponge: The Simple Brilliance Of The SpongeBob SquarePants Musical

It has been a while since I talked about a musical on here, but why not mix it in with the talk of animation, movies, videogames, and all the other things I nerd out about, and much like gaming bring it back to this blog. This musical has been special to me for a while and it really should not have worked when you consider the slippery tightrope of adaptation. Well talking about the movie put the musical back into the forefront of the inner machinations of my mind, so why not take hold of this topic and firmly grasp it, set all phasers to wumbo, and explore why the SpongeBob musical takes the worst of times and makes them into the best day ever.  I have listened to the album many times, and have watched the filmed live on stage version which has different lyrics, I do hope to see a production live someday. The plot involves the denizens of Bikini Bottom facing what seems to be the end of all life as they know it, with a massive volcano about to go off. Plankton has ulterior m...

The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Triumph (Spoiler Free)

Image
I have been waiting for this movie, for so long, and now it's finally here. It was absolutely worth it. Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig, taking on invaders from out of this world, wacky shenanigans not only ensue, but are expected, and I wouldn't want any less especially when the Looney Tunes are involved.  Anime movies have been keeping 2D animation alive in the theatrical circuit, but seeing a western animated film, a cartoon film, a Looney Tunes movie purely about them, hit the big screen is beyond rare. This movie was my most anticipated of the year, and it didn't just make my high hopes, it blew them up, it blew them out of the water.  The animation of this movie is gorgeous, landing visual jokes in spades. Each frame is full of vibrant life that just makes the movie feel grand, while also keeping the style we love about the Looney Tunes. The backgrounds are super vibrant, and mixed media is used in ways that had me almost rolling out of me seat with laughter, t...

I'm A Goofy Goober : The Timeless Message Of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (Bonus Post)

Today is march 14, which is Pi day, a day to celebrate math and treats shaped like a circle, but to many, myself included is also the day Krabs fries. This week is the timeframe of the first cinematic outing of a beloved cartoon character, as he and his best friend try to get the crown, save the town, and said Krabs. SpongeBob SquarePants the movie, a great film I saw in theaters, have on DVD, and even owned the soundtrack to. A movie that created memes, while still being beloved by many as one of the best movies based on a TV show. I would have to agree with the sentiment, the animation still looks good, the comedy is spot on, and it translates from the small screen to the large perfectly. At the heart of it, is a message about being young at heart, being underestimated, and staying true to yourself. Meaning you can be a Goofy Goober and still save the day, a message resounding the origins of the channel this show shattered numbers, ratings, and became a household name from....

Looney Tunes Back In Action

This movie is still a gem to me, I saw it in theaters when it first came out, and usually watch it with friends or on my own, once to twice a year. With the upcoming release of The Day The Earth Blew Up and seeing the Looney Tunes take to the big screen once again in one of my most anticipated movies of this year, I thought I would look at my favorite film to feature them. A film with great comedy, as well as some solid commentary included, right under Who Framed Roger Rabbit as my favorite cartoon, live action combined film. Even though nostalgia and love for Space Jam is strong, and I have a soft spot for that and the sequel, this film to me, isn't so cheesy or bad its good, it's just plain good.  The quest for Bugs and the love interest get Daffy back as he and a stunt actor played by Brenden Frasier as they embark on a spy mission trying to stop Acme from taking over, while getting tons of amazing Looney Tunes and Hannah Barbara cameos both in scenes and the background wo...
