The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Triumph (Spoiler Free)
I have been waiting for this movie, for so long, and now it's finally here. It was absolutely worth it. Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig, taking on invaders from out of this world, wacky shenanigans not only ensue, but are expected, and I wouldn't want any less especially when the Looney Tunes are involved.
Anime movies have been keeping 2D animation alive in the theatrical circuit, but seeing a western animated film, a cartoon film, a Looney Tunes movie purely about them, hit the big screen is beyond rare. This movie was my most anticipated of the year, and it didn't just make my high hopes, it blew them up, it blew them out of the water.
The music in this movie also works, there are some licensed songs but also a ton of orchestrated pieces. There are some visual, and spoken references to the classics, but also music based ones as well that is such a treat. The music that is new also fits the style of what is being conveyed and amplifies it in such a wonderful manner. I might even listen to some of these pieces on their own, it so good.
The writing also ties all of this together in such a neat bow, there are tons of jokes both visual and spoken that are just great. Doing the true to form Looney Tunes way of knowing the balance of jokes and having the perfect amount of each. Tons of great one liners, and visual slapstick, that makes this feel right at home with some of the Looney Tunes best. The film overall is just plain fun, it has even some sweet moments as well that feel genuine and tugged on my heartstrings, and is hilarious. I loved this film and could not find a single thing wrong with it, it was the a great length, with excellent pacing, gorgeous visuals, and is just fun from start to finish, this is a well made Looney Tunes product and should be celebrated. The team who made this, the people who animated and voiced this, and indie studio named after a condiment who saved it from being shelved, deserve all the thanks they can get, for making such a great thing. Every single time I thought I was done laughing, another joke would come in and have me giggling away again like a little kid.
This movie brought me back to seeing the Looney Tunes on the big screen in Back In Action, and just made me feel so young at heart. Laughing at wacky slapstick, seeing crazy animation, and reminding me why I love animation of all kinds so much. Why I love the Looney Tunes so much. I want to see more 2D animated movies come from the west, I want to see more movies like this, and will absolutely be buying the DVD the second it hits store shelves. Go see this movie if you can, or watch it as soon as you can, it is that good.
This may very well be my favorite movie of 2025, perhaps Super Man, or Wicked Part 2 will take the crown when the dust settles, but this movie will be up there, this movie is fantastic. This movie woke my inner child from its slumber and reminded me of watching Looney Tunes Back In Action in the theaters and why I love these characters so much. Timeless characters, cartoon and comedic legends, that even if they are removed from streaming platforms, or have their films canceled for no justifiable reason, they legacy stands and stand will last.
