Why The King Of The Hill Opening Is Amazing
The continuation of King Of The Hill is here, and I have been watching a tons of the originals seasons leading up to it. I really like this show, it is hilarious, has tons of memorable moments, and even some great character moments as well. I may talk about it at some point after some time has passed but today I wanted to talk about something that is shared between the old seasons and the new. The intro, the visuals may have changed but still carry the same feeling, and the song is the same, so let's talk about it. Crack open a can, stand around with you friends, and rock out, this is the intro to King Of The Hill.
When a show has a good intro song, it is fun to listen to either on it's own or every time we play an episode, and let it run. Countless songs from Disney Afternoon Shows, super hero shows, and more have been played when I am handed the aux chord with friends, or just when they pop into my head and I just have to give them a listen. This song is one of them, the instrumentation has stuck in my head to the point where I knew the intro song, long before I started watching the show.
The theme song to King Of The Hill is very recognizable, it has not only played on countless episodes of the show it comes from but has been parodied countless times in other shows. An iconic opening alongside the likes of the Simpsons, that sets the tone of the show, while keeping the style of the show itself so that it is not only associated with it, but is not a distraction. A good intro feels like it belongs with the rest of the show itself, as part of it, and this one has always fit like a glove.
The song is beyond catchy even on its own, consisting of instrumentation and some YE HAWS, it captures the feeling of the show perfectly. It is high energy and very easily gets stuck in my head. When watched with the show itself the visuals are simple yet memorable as well. Watching a whole day go by as the guys crack a beer in the alley and the world revolves around them, shows the themes of the show of how the world changes and yet some things stay the same. The revival seasons keeping this as it shows time passing, and works just as well, showing just how much the world has changed with Hank's absence and how it goes from familiar, to different, to back again by the end. It always ends with the family, which is a perfect note to end on before Hank and the logo are the last things left.
The song proves that sometimes you don't need to have singing to make a memorable song, the instruments set the tone perfectly and work well. I have listened to this song without watching it in the context of the show and it just rocks. The instruments used fitting into the setting while still making for a song that has gotten stuck in my head more times then I could count.
The revival season keeping the intro was a perfect move as the song is catchy, and visuals memorable, both of them working great on their own and even better when paired together. The revival showing some more modern elements such as current events and politics, but still ending with Hank, Bobby, and Peggy, is perfect. The song staying the same made me happy from the first moment I saw it.
The revival intro was the first thing show before any trailers with jokes and dialogue from the show, and I watched it quite a few times over as it built my excitement for the new season. As someone who is very new to the show and only began watching it this year, the intro hooked me.
Watching episodes with my friends, on my own, laughing, and enjoying the character moments, relating to some emotions in the shows or even the struggles and laughing at others, I am glad I started watching this show this year. The show lives up to the hype and so does the intro. A great intro, for a great animated series, that still holds up from the time it first aired, to even listening to it. With or without the visuals this animated intro much like some of the ways Hank looks at life, shows sometimes the old still works as well as the new.
