Jingle All The Way Is A Black Friday Movie

At the time of this post, Thanksgiving is almost here, and with that comes times of food, family, and of course, shopping. Black Friday is no longer a single day, but rather a period of time; stores both online and in person now hold deals throughout the week or even earlier.  People are now pointing out that some films are Thanksgiving films, just like how Halloween and Christmas have movies, such as "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," for example. Well I have a movie to add to this list for "Jingle All The Way", a film about a absentee father played by Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to get his son an action figure that is sold out everywhere, dealing with plenty of wacky antics along the way, such as a neighbor who wants to ruin his home life, and a postal worker on the same quest.  I have watched this movie since childhood on VHS, but I only just realized that yes, this movie takes place during the Christmas season, but it applies to more than just one time of the ...

The Classic Song That I Can Not Stop Listening To Lately

I love musicals and enjoy discussing them on this blog from time to time, as well as just talking about music and songs in general. Speaking of general, there is a song that was written in 1879 and has been performed, parodied, and covered to this day. "I Am Very The Model Of A Modern Major General" from the Pirates Of Penzance is a song that you have probably heard performed or parodied. The recent revival of the opera, sometimes adapted as a stage musical now titled "Pirates! The Penzance Musical," is an album I have been listening to a lot of recently, and it all started by hearing a parody of this song about the games series Mass Effect done by the 8 Bit Band. There are many iterations of this show, but I have been listening to the most recent recording, though I have listened to some classic recordings and, of course, some parodies. I just can not get enough of this song lately.  This song is the introduction of the comedic general as he comes to rescue his da...

Donkey Kong Country: The Start Of A New Series

I have been in the mood lately to play retro games, whether they are older titles I never got around to or revisiting an old favorite; in this case, it is the latter. I love so many games from the Donkey Kong series, and I plan on talking about quite a few of his gaming adventures, starting with his first platforming outing on the Super Nintendo. I grew up with the entire Donkey Kong Country series of games, owning all three of those classic cartridges, and these games, along with Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Kirby Superstar, and many other games on the system, were my first foray into gaming. The Super Nintendo remains one of my favorite gaming systems and gaming libraries of all time. This game is one of the many reasons why I love it so much. When Donkey Kong was in the arcades, he was the villain of the story. That Kong ended up becoming Cranky Kong, this new DK, now the hero of the narrative, must platform through multiple levels, spanning multiple worlds, to reclaim hi...

Batman 89: Classic Super Hero Cinema

Super heroes are everywhere these days, anime, animated movies, comics, video games, and of course live action movies. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been running for almost twenty years now and shows no sign of stopping. Super heroes have had a presence for quite some time, comic books, radio dramas, old television shows, and yes of course, movies. Before Tom Holland took to the screen as the web warrior Spider-Man, before there was a Spider-Verse to see bring a whole new style of animation, there was Toby Maguire. Long before Christopher Nolan wowed the world with The Dark Knight, or Matt Reeves with The Batman. There was a time when Tim Burton, Jack Nicholson, and Michel Keaton brought Batman to the big screen in  1989, and that movie, still, is nothing short of fantastic.  This movie follows a battle between Batman and The Joker, played by Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. This movie shows the Joker's rise and the battle between the hero and villain, the Joker, a...
