Songs I Keep On Repeat: Odds Are By The Barenaked Ladies

Life can be crazy, sometimes everything seems to be going wrong. But as long as we hold to on to hope, things will be alright. One song that rings true with this simple message while being super chill and catchy at the same time would be "Odds Are" by the Barenaked Ladies or BNL as they are called in Community one of my favorite comedy shows of all time, and will be calling them through the rest of this post as well. This song is one of my go tos to relax with,  and for fans of the YouTube Channel Rooster Teeth, this is one of the two songs the band teamed up with them to make a music video, this song and another great one called "Did I Say That Out Loud?" which I am sure to talk about at some point.

This song lists things such as getting hit by meteor or getting attacked by a shark, but showing that according to the odds, someone is more likely to fall in love or just be alright. The song compares the chances of both, and says how the odds are that we, the band and the one listening will be alright tonight, to quote it directly. The song invokes a very laid back feeling with a simple but memorable chorus, acknowledging that bad things go wrong, but there are so many chances to just be alright. The lyrics are catchy and the instrumentation are also very relaxed.

The relaxed nature of both invokes a calm feeling, which is funny with a song that mentions being struck in lighting, but in all honesty, people are more likely to fall in love, to the point they use the actual number. Falling in love by the end of the song showing the possibility of good things, but the overarching theme of taking it easy, enjoying life, taking a risk because no matter what, by the end of the song, we will probably be alright, even when things go wrong.

This song is just a great listen, sometimes I just need a song to unwind to as the sun is going down, or on a drive home and this song is just so peaceful. As I have already mentioned how well the instrumentation and lyrics work in a great harmony to make this a good song. This song is just a very good reminder of how things work out, it's great to listen to on a bad day or a good one. This song is just overall very nice, it is an easy listen, and one that I find so good to chill out with. I enjoy this song and love the message of it.

The music video highlights this with a comedic edge being set in a  newsroom as disaster after disaster happens around the guest stars of Rooster Teeth. It's funny and definitely adds an outrageous edge to the song, hammering in how in the end everything will work out. I usually just listen to the song, but the music video is there for those who enjoy

This isn't much of a deep dive, but rather like the song just a nice and short detour in between bigger projects, sometimes it's nice to just sit back and listen to music. So I thought that every once in a while on this blog I could look into a song I like and why I like it. This one being a case just a super fun song, that's easy to listen to. A fun song with a sweet and simple message to it, give it a listen because odds are, you might like it too.
