May Hero Academia Finale: Curtain Call

It has been fun talking about MHA and I am sure I will do it again, perhaps next May and even some times before then, I do want to talk about anime alongside games, movies, shows, YouTube, or whatever thought comes to my mind when I should be asleep. This will be the finale, just in case I come up with something new that isn't MHA related, but this opening is so good, that I wanted to go through it. "Curtain Call" was the second opening in this second to last season and the 13th opening in the series. After season one every season has had two openings and I have even covered a couple on this blog, I probably come back to the topic as a whole when the series has finished, and perhaps even other MHA topics. I love this opening song so much I want to talk about it now. also SPOILERS AHEAD, because this opening does show some topics I want to lightly touch on.

As we are in the midst of the final battle the song lives up to its title, we are at the curtain call before everyone takes their bows and the story is over. The manga is finished, everything is culminating into one big final moment, one final big event before the falling action and the end. Major characters are shown, major story beats are shown, from the final confrontation of Todoroki's family and Dabi, each character being paired with hero and villain, Uruaka and Toga, Todoroki and Dabi, starting with All For One and All Might. Showing that in this moment, there is no going back. Plenty of imagery is shown that plays out from action shots, to emotional moments, all syncing with the music. Ending with Deku wanting to reach out to Shigraki, showing they were both once children who want to become heroes.

The imagery shown does a good job of not only fitting with the song and setting the tone, but also not giving away too much. They are moments that the viewer may recognize from the manga or look forward to seeing if they are like me and just watch the anime. Everything shown either shows up, or eludes to something that happens in this season, not giving away too much, but also not just showing everything.

The song is great as an opening and as a song. The song is high energy, the imagery matching with it so well. I looked up the lyrics and how it mentions that this is a do or die moment, and how someone won't give up even if we are drawing close to the end. I have heard some English covers as well that cover the similar bases about how even though things are wrapping up, we keep being who are and wanting to help others.

As a song the instrumentation and lyrics blend so well together. It stands on its own as a song or what plays before some of the episodes. The song fills me up with hype and understanding the lyrics work with the show and just as a song. Many great openings for anime are great in the context of the show and as songs as a whole, and MHA is no stranger to that. I really enjoy many of the openings and ending songs this show has, both within the show and as songs, which normally have really great visuals to compliment the songs.

The song is so energetic, and I have not stopped listening to this since I first listened to it. I love listening to this song, it has easily become of one of my all time favorite MHA openings. I listen to a good number of the openings from this show because they are consistently solid, like many other Shonen Anime like One Piece And Naruto. There are fan favorites and ones considered to be overlooked. This is a great song and I recommend giving it a listen or if you would like a watch because the visuals for this work so well. This is just a great opening, and I will keep listening to it long after the show wraps up and is over.

I do plan to revisit MHA, perhaps next May again, but probably before then, especially with the series wrapping up. I want to tackle the movies, the songs, even individual episodes, so I will return to this franchise. I enjoyed writing for this and thank you so much for reading them. I am sure to talk more about MHA in the future and perhaps even do a second May Hero Academia. Until next time don't forget to ...GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA!
