Wii Games Tier List

I have been having tons of nostalgia for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS lately, even been replaying some of the games as of late last year and this year on both systems. So I decided to fire up a tier list which I have not done in a while and show off my favorite games for the motion control based home consoles, the Nintendo Wii. I am not going to comment on all of these as there is a handful of Wii games I still have not played, but I will talk about these and maybe even a couple that were not shown and where they would place.

The S Tier

I have always preferred Super Mario Galaxy over its sequel, but having replayed both recently they are still both excellent games in their own right. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are the opposite, I will not go too deep into that as earlier this year I did a whole post on why Wii Sports Resort is one of my favorite Wii games already. All four of these games are must owns for any Wii owners library who is seeking to collect for the console.

Rhythm Heaven Fever is a splendid but very challenging game, and Mario Kart Wii gave me so many good memories, I loved using the Wii Wheel even, and some of the courses in that game are absolutely fantastic, whether with friends, online, or playing on my own, Mario Kart Wii was one of my favorites back in the day.

The A and B Tier

What can be said about Wii Sports that has not already been said, this game is a pack in masterpiece. A game every family member could play. Punch Out, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Kirby's Return to Dream Land are all incredible games, Punch Out being an incredibly challenging yet rewarding arcade style game, with an unforgettable presentation, the two Kirby games mentioned are both cozy but also fun from start to finish. The Wii had a ton of 2D platformers and those two Kirby games are at the top of that list for me, but Wario Land Shake It also deserves to be in the conversation for its amazing art style, great music, and a presentation that looks hand drawn and still looks incredible today, while still being a super fun game. Super Paper Mario not only is a fun change of pace for Paper Mario but also packs some incredible music and great narrative as well.

Fortune Street may run long in terms of matches but is so much fun, WarioWare Smooth Moves is a great minigame collection, Mario Strikers Charged was a personal favorite among hangouts when I was younger, as was Super Smash Brothers Brawl. The story mode in Brawl combined with so much single player and multiplayer content, packed to the brim with so much fun to be had with friends or on your own, I was smiling ear to ear the day I got my Wii which came along with Super Mario Galaxy, a points card, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Though the butt of many jokes now, New Super Mario Bros Wii will always be special to me, I was just so excited when it came out, I got it for Christmas and loved playing it on my own or with friends. I thought a home console Mario game I didn't have to take turns with my friends for was just the coolest thing. Links Crossbow Training is just a fun, short time, Mario Super Sluggers is another really solid Mario Sports game that may not have a lot of single player but is still very fun, and the same could be said for Mario Sports Mix.

The C and D Tiers

I enjoy some of these games, but now when it comes to collecting, I do not feel the strongest desire to collect them. Some of these games were just too bare bones, or had controller gimmicks that did not pan out well. With Animal Crossing City Folk, I did not feel as drawn to this as I do with Animal Crossing games that are on the go, I just think handheld entries for this series are stronger, that might also be because I began on the DS with this series. Pokémon Battle Revolution was a far cry from Pokémon Stadium in so many ways. Donkey Kong Country Returns saw a better remake on the 3DS that held way better features, I never beat it on the Wii due to the motion controls and just some of the ways the levels are designed. Mario Party 8 and Wii Party are serviceable party games where some fun can be had.. Wii Music I have no comment for, or for Metroid Other M. I played Wii Play once and got very bored, very fast.

Games Not Shown:

Tatsunoko V.S Capcom (S Tier): This is an incredible fighting game, an absolute joy, and has fantastic presentation and music.

Ghost Squadron (A Tier): an incredibly A Sega made, well made arcade style shooter, works super well, and is just a blast with friends or on your own, definitely worth it.

Mario and Sonic At The Olympic Games (C Tier): This game WILL make your arms hurt, the winter one is better, and I never played the London one. A so-so minigame collection.

Batman The Brave And The Bold (B Tier): A hidden gem licensed game with a ton of great detail put into it, but the chapters overstay their welcome.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash Up (B Tier): Doesn't offer a lot in terms of content or a roaster but what is here is super fun, a nice little fighting party game.

Mario Party 9 (D Tier): It's got a car and It's not good!

Conclusion:

And that was my Wii tier list, I am hoping to do more of these in more detail, and bring this format of posts back, this was very fun to make and I could cover tons of gaming and non-gaming based topics for shows in movies in the future. But what are some of your favorite Wii games, any hidden gems I should play, please let me know!
