Every Marvel Movie That Came Out In 2025
It has been quite a while since I have seen every Marvel movie released in theaters, last year was easier as there was only one film "Deadpool And Wolverine", this year there were three films and I saw all of them on the big screen. I am not counting every show or other project, just because I want to get this out after seeing Fantastic Four recently. I used to see as many Marvel films as I could before Thanos came and broke the box office With Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, it was a nice long conclusion that was incredibly fun to follow. But then the movies and shows kept on coming, and I have only kept up here or there, relying on YouTube or friends to fill me in on what I need to know. So let's look at three of the major MCU films released this year, and my thoughts on them. I do not usually give scores with films but I am going to for this as there are multiple films, and I may keep the scores for future reviews.
Also all these reviews will be spoiler free.
Captain America Brave New World
I was pretty excited for this film as I love Captain America and I was excited to see Sam take up the mantle. I did watch the Falcon And Winter Solider show which I really enjoyed. This movie was good but far also pretty messy.
There were some great actions scenes but also some scenes that ran a bit too long. There were moments that I liked but some plot points that felt kept going on. There were certain emotional moments that worked and there were some I could care less about. There is one emotional theme in particular that the movie is dead set on wanting strike a chord with me, but it never did, and every time this emotional plot thread popped up which was constantly, made me feel disdain instead.
There was a joke or two I liked, and some solid action, and Anthony Mackey deserves a solid movie, but this movie feels like it is not punching hard enough. It feels like there are places the movie could go but never does. There is also constant references to one key player in the world of Marvel, plot points and characters all the way from phase one yet, the character tied to these which makes the lack of this character all the more jarring. This movie felt like it was meant for someone else and just happened to have Captain America in it, there's another character who makes an appearance that makes me question why they are not involved in more then one scene they are in.
As I said, this film is messy, there is good in it, and it is far from the worst film I have seen this year or even the worst MCU movie. I had fun with it and enjoyed the action, it just feels like a puzzle with some very key pieces missing. The movie feels like its trying to not pull its punches but it just doesn't punch hard enough. I want to see a sequel that punches on some of the topics that were hinted at and is willing to say things out loud instead of hinting at and implying.
I want to see more films with Anthony Mackey as Captain America and believe he can do great things, so I hope he gets a movie that can prove that.
Pros: Good action, good acting, one of the best line deliveries I have heard in the MCU in a long time
Cons: Weird plot points, odd emotional storylines, references to characters who are not there, references that feel forced in with odd pay offs, messy story
Score: 6/10
*Thunderbolts
This is my favorite Marvel movie this year. It is hilarious, it has heart, every actor knocks it out of the park, the action is great, there is very few qualms I have with this movie. I have no expectations for this movie and was not even planning on seeing it in theaters, but I am so glad I did.
I laughed way more then I expected to, some of the small talk banter is so great and the jokes mostly landed. The emotional moments also worked really well, the characters were engaging and fun to follow. This movie had tons of great action, and character moments. I want a follow up to this movie because I want to see this team go on adventures. They work off of each other so well.
The character development in this movie is great to follow. That being said not every member of the team that was advertised gets to shine, there is one member in particular that made me question why they were even in the movie. That being said, there might be a plot moment or two that I wasn't as invested in, but there was so much that I was. The movie was just a solid watch and had a really good message as well. I enjoyed this film and was super surprised by it. I have not felt this way with a Marvel in a while, not since Guardians Of The Galaxy, where I also had no expectations as I knew nothing of the characters and absolutely loved the film.
Much like Guardians, it had great comedy, great character moments, and even some heart as well. I want to watch this movie again and will probably even pick up the DVD, this film is proof that Marvel can have gas in the tank still, they just need to take risks, and make movies like this.
Even if there was a character or two that felt out of place, there is so much going in this films favor, that I found myself beyond pleasantly surprised.
Pros: Good humor, good writing, solid character moments, good action, great ensemble piece that used most of the cast well
Cons: A couple characters, especially one felt very out of place, pacing can be off at times
Score: 9/10
Fantastic Four
Last but not least is the most recent film to enter the MCU. I really enjoyed this movie. The acting was really good, and I really enjoyed the world this movie was creating was really enjoyable. When this movie was coming out I was cautiously optimistic, but all my worries were mostly nothing but.
If you enjoy action I will say this movie does not have a lot and when there was action, it was not very special. There were only two of the limited action scenes that I enjoyed, but most of this movie is spent with dialogue. Luckily I enjoyed a ton of the dialogue, everyone acts in character and fits well, even for audiences that are new to these heroes. The jokes are pretty good and I liked how this movie felt different and stood out on its own.
The effects mostly look great but there are some that are less desirable, and that is how I feel about the whole film. I had a good time but there were things that I felt did not work. There are some scenes that drag on too long, plot points that take up a little too much time, and some action scenes that didn't hold much weight at all. For every qualm I had, there was plenty I enjoyed. The banter between this super hero family, some of the emotional moments, and the aesthetic of this movie. This world is so striking, with the costumes, the style, music, and just how everything looks. It looks great and it is not distracting but rather adds to everything as being a different dimension.
This film made me want to see other super hero stories that take place in their own worlds, and apart from the MCU, it felt nice to have a film that mostly didn't have to be connected to another film or a show. I think the MCU could benefit for more standalone stories, giving different styles and genres, looks and feels to a set of films we have had for almost two decades now.
Though this movie was not perfect, and not every member of the four gets equal time to shine, I had a really good time with it, and would see another on the big screen, some of the jokes, the dialogue, and the world itself were very enjoyable, well written in most cases and well acted. Much like *Thunderbolts I think that standing out and not following what we need, is the key to putting more gas in tank of the MCU. The quiet moments of this movie, the moments in between the heavy action is where this super hero family truly shines, and is worth seeing at least once.
PROS: Good Jokes, solid writing, great aesthetic, one or two good action scenes, good acting
CONS: Some storylines drag on, some bad visuals, most action scenes did not have an impact, use of the ensemble felt unbalanced at times
Score: 7/10
