Food Television
When I am with my friends, we find ourselves watching a ton of Chopped lately, with some Cutthroat Kitchen mixed in. High pressure cooking shows, with a ticking clock, set backs, and needing to be good enough to advance. But I also love all sorts of shows revolving around food, whether it is being cooked or tasted. When I go to a hotel I usually throw on a show involving food, especially if it's Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. There is no hour of the day that I am not down to go with Guy Fieri down to flavor town, with friends, with family, or own my own. So I talked about food on Youtube, let's talk about it on television shall we?
There are not many food shows that I will turn away, I love watching people try to cook, especially in challenging situations such as Chopped, or recently Supermarket Stakeout where chefs must bid on blind carts of groceries for food ingredients. Supermarket Stakeout feels like a mix of Chopped and Cutthroat Kitchen, in the best way possible, it is just fun to watch people try and make meals with either mystery ingredients or setbacks.
But I also love baking competition shows, barbeque competition shows, and even shows that just show off food. I love watching shows that show off restaurants and even then Man V.S Food, does that and then wraps things up with a challenge that can be attempted at said restaurant. The reason why I find myself tuning into food shows whether with friends, as background noise, or as the perfect way to break in a hotel room when I travel is similar to why I watch food videos on YouTube. Comfort.
Food is an easy and comforting topic, it can be great to taste but even just great to look at. Watching it get prepared and the though process of the chef is a form of creativity. In the case of Chopped watching a chef use their wits with mystery ingredients under a ticking clock none the less. Cooking is a form of a creativity and watching the process inspires me to create in my own ways.
I would wish to learn to cook and bake more as it seems very fulfilling as a skill, but even just watching someone else cook inspires me to write. It inspires me to pursue the form of creativity that I have spent time practicing. It makes for great and easy things to listen to without demanding the most attention, there are plenty of times where I have played videogames while keeping a cooking show on. They are entertaining to watch but also to listen to and just take a look at while doing other things.
Cooking shows display creativity in full force, and food shows are just plain fun to watch. Whether it is showcasing a place to go, or a high stakes competition with a cash prize, food is a great topic. Food is a great way to connect us in conversation with one another. Food is a great topic and the sheer amount of shows involving cooking, baking, or just showcasing food shows how limitless the possibilities are when it comes to food. From different foods, to different styles of cooking, food itself like a good cake has layers to it.
I love learning about food, hearing ingredients I would not know about described, learning the makings of certain dishes. Truly the only downside besides watching a food based show that doesn't work, and trust me not all of them are winners, is that I will get hungry watching them. I hunger to watch more episodes of Chopped but also for a snack because when done well, some of the dishes look absolutely irresistible. Food shows will always be something great to watch, as well as to just listen to while doing something else. A food documentary on a restaurant and those who work at it, or people trying to use something you would never dream go into a dessert for the hopes of a large cash prize. Much like a menu there are so many options, and most times, we all have our own personal favorites. Food shows are always cooking up something I want to at least give a try, a taste, because sometimes I may just end up wanting more.
