My Hero Academia Opening: The REVO

The final season of My Hero Academia has begun, and that is still something I am grappling with, it feels like just yesterday I was watching the first episodes of the series as season three was about to be released, but now we are here with this which is one of, if not the final opening of the series, at the time of this post I do not know if there is one or two this season. Today I wanted to talk about "THE REVO", because I have been listening to it and watching the opening on loop.

Performed by the band that made the very first opening for MHA, with a name that I do not feel like saying, but those who know the name know it, and if you look up this song will see it. This song is softer and almost somber; even when it picks up to the end, it feels like a soft farewell. Compared to the last opening, which I talked about on this blog, "Curtain Call," it is night and day. Images of the current arc are shown, as well as some different moments, and even some call-backs to parts of the series. Some of the imagery is shown in a really creative montage taking place within the confines of a comic book, and the ending is similar to how the last opening ended, showing a younger Deku reaching for a younger Shigaraki.

Some of the visuals in this opening are spectacular, namely my personal favorite, which shows a child All Might with his mother, the soft colors that were bright, and how this visual synced up with the music made it stand out to me. Not only was seeing the number one hero's beginnings warm my heart, but seeing her do the pose with him that would become his victory pose, made me smile ear to ear. All Might is one of my favorite characters in this franchise, and seeing moments of his origin, and how he became the hero we know today always makes me hyped up and or wanting to cry happy tears.  Some of the visuals stood out to me, and some of the others were fine; none were out of place. The song itself, as I mentioned, is a good listen as a full song or just before an episode plays. I do enjoy it.

I like the softer approach and some of the call-backs in the lyrics to the very first opening. Not only having the band that played the opening that started it all, but the first opening was called "The Day" and this song has a lyric saying "The day has come".  Everything has been building up to this moment, and as this series draws to a close, it's nice to see some of these moments. Everyone is supporting Deku, Deku wants to still reach out and save a villain, believing he can, and even one more cool action shot of All Might. This opening is enjoyable, and I do like the song a lot, but I do not see it becoming a top five for me of all the openings. It is a song that has great instrumentation and builds up, all while maintaining the soft tone it begins with, but I still see some other openings in the series and enjoy them more.

On its own, without the other openings, I find this one enjoyable and even a little sweet. There are some moments of this opening that I love in terms of the visuals, and I have listened to the song plenty, even looking at some of the lyrics and seeing a nice song about bringing about change. This song fits the series and feels like a soft goodbye to those watching, "the day has come," and even though this story is ending, we appreciate the moments it gave. Moments of comedy, action, and even inspiration through its characters. And even though it didn't always hit the mark, it still gave us plenty to enjoy. I am excited as My Hero Vigilantes continues, giving us more time in this world with other characters, but a major chapter is ending.

This opening if it is the last one, fits as a final bow and farewell to the audience by being a nice, soft song with some good visuals. If it is not the final opening, you can bet I will cover it as soon as I can, but if this one is the last, then it was a good note to end on.
