Scooby Doo Has Many Iconic Theme Songs
Scooby Doo has been around for quite some time, and with that comes not only many different iterations on the small or big screen but also many theme songs to go with those versions. I wanted to talk about some of my personal favorites because these are songs I can listen to either while watching the shows themselves or on their own because they are just that good. So grab some Scooby Snacks and let's split up to find some clues as I talk about some songs that I love to listen to from everyone's favorite talking dog.
Scooby Doo Where Are You
Might as well start with the original song, the one that started it all. This song is just plain fun; it is short and sweet and delivers the feeling perfectly. It adds a layer of mystery in the lyrics but reminds us that Scooby and the gang are here to stop the villain, no matter how scared he may be.
This song is just classic, and I have yet to hear a bad version of this song. Even the version in the movie "Scoob" is a great rendition of this song. The lyrics are memorable, and the song is just plain catchy. The instrumentation and the lyrics work together to make this song stand right alongside some of the other memorable songs from this era. This is just another great example of songs from the Hanna-Barbera era of animation, just a fun introduction to the cartoon you are about to see.
This isn't the only memorable piece of music from this show; some of the background music, or the title card music, and many of the songs from this show are simple yet iconic. This song is as fun as the show it belongs to, and after listening to it many times over for this blog post, and even different versions of this song, it only solidifies why this song is so great.
The first opening theme song hit it right out of the park.
What's New Scooby Doo
I may have grown up with reruns of classic Scooby Doo shows and movies, and definitely watched them, but this was one of my childhood favorites. Written and performed by the band A Simple Plan, this song is so iconic that it was put in Fortnite along with the gang from Mystery Inc. This song is so much fun from start to finish.
A rock song that calls back to the classic theme songs in terms of tone while still standing on its own. The song is upbeat and fast-paced, the lyrics and instrumentation working together in harmony to make this song super memorable. I have a ton of nostalgia for this era of Scooby Doo, aside from the show and movies, but also just the art style in general of this era. This style lasted a long time for Mystery Inc., and it just works. This song is so much fun to sing along with, and much like "Scooby Doo Where Are You," I have heard plenty of good versions of this song.
Whether it be covers or done by different performers in the show, this song is super catchy and memorable as well. A song that covers Scooby's fears, and his love of Scooby Snacks, much like the original, but also talks about the mystery itself.
A song that fits within the light-hearted tone and style of Scooby, while also being an amazing rock song. Simply amazing, and "What's New Scooby Doo" never gets old, no matter how many times I listen to it.
A Pup Named Scooby Doo
I love all of the songs covered today and will happily listen to them at any point, but this one is my all-time favorite Scooby Doo theme song.
The show where we follow the gang in their younger years, and one of the few songs to mention all the members of Mystery Incorporated by name, instead of just Scooby. This song not only roll calls the whole crew, but still keeps the tone I have mentioned a time or two, in which it mentions the mystery, the Scooby Snacks, and of course the monsters. Everything a Scooby Doo theme song needs.
The song, much like the others, is super upbeat and just plain fun from start to finish, though in terms of genre, this song takes a different approach. Using background singers with the main vocalist, and different styles of instrumentation, really makes this Scooby theme stand out, and even has a lyric or two that uses the catchphrases that we have come to know and love from this group of characters. The song is one I always want to sing along to and never get tired of, and nostalgia does play a factor in that as I did grow up with this show and watched it regularly. Even then, this song is just incredibly catchy, has memorable lyrics, and is just tons of fun.
There are plenty of shows that used younger versions of established characters that had amazing theme songs; this one is one of the best. This is a song that I can either listen to on its own or never skip when I want to watch an episode of the show.
All three of these openings are just as memorable and amazing as the shows they belong to, showing how not only the characters and world of Scooby Doo are timeless, but so are many of the theme songs. I listened to all three of these songs on a loop for a good amount of time before writing this post, and was just smiling ear to ear. I love all three of these songs, classics in their own right, and just show how aspects of Scooby Doo, and Scooby himself, stand alongside the Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, as well as many others, as a classic cartoon icon.
